Line 6 Pod X3 Live - Input stereo audio and output via USB digital via FX Return Loop

CD/MP3 in doesn't output to USB but you can use the FX Return inputs and turn on Loop object in the main Tone menu.

At the Source
Verify your source is producing a strong loud but not distorted signal.
Output from source in stereo to R/L FX 1/4" input jacks in rear of POD.
Verify a loud clear signal from your source by listening through the PHONES jack or monitors.
Fixing the Tone
Select a Tone bank, usually a blank User tone.
If you are only trying to use the POD to process this one signal as clean as possible then you will turn off all other effects.
This is also where pre/post settings may be important depending on what you're trying to accomplish.
I will need to return to this to explain pre/post effects.
Sending the Audio
Connect via USB to final device in your audio chain - usually a computer.
Select LOOP and press ON/OFF once to activate it.  It will be darkened.
Press ON/OFF twice quickly to enter edit mode.
Turn up RETURN dial to 50% - 100%
Turn down SEND if needed.
Turn up MIX to desired amount.
Press SAVE dial twice to save settings
Final Touches
Verify a signal from POD at next device.  If recording via PC assure your signal is neither clipping nor below 70%.
If signal is weak, check physical Master Volume dial on POD. It will be at 33% or higher.
If signal is weak, assure primary source is at or near the maximum output level that is still clear.
If signal is still weak, assure RETRUN is max, SEND is min, and MIX is above 50%
Don't forget to save if you made any adjustments.
Done
You should now have a clear hot signal going to your USB enabled device.
